The District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mr. Kenneth Obempong has expressed concern that despite the various strategies and plans put in place, revenue mobilization is still abysmal.
He has therefore urged assembly members to get involved in revenue collection to enable the assembly to improve upon its internal revenue generation.
Mr. Obempong said this in his address at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly at Ajumako. He said out of an estimated revenue of GH¢48,310.00 targeted this year, only GH¢20,291.63 had been collected as at now.
The DCE expressed concern that revenue mobilization is a major problem in the district and blamed both the assembly members and revenue collectors for the poor revenue generation by the assembly.
"Revenue is generated nowhere but from electoral areas and you are the people that live in the electoral areas and look after them".
Mr. Obempong said the assembly has so far received GH¢ 334,282.74 out of a total of GH¢769, 600.00 common funds for the district this year, which has been spent on development projects in the district.
He said that the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports has approved the construction of 6 and 3 unit classroom blocks in six communities where classes were held under trees.
The communities were Ankokrom, Essiam, Bisease, Bewora, Obantser and Breman Fawomanye and hoped that the remaining twelve communities would have their turn soon.
The DCE informed the assembly that a piece of land the Assembly member for Besease gave to the assembly for the construction of a KVIP had landed it into trouble.
He said the owner of the land claimed that the assembly had trespassed on his land and took the assembly to court where the court awarded damages and cost of 105 million cedis against it.
According to the DCE a court order has been issued and as at now two of the Assembly's vehicles have been confiscated and are currently in the custody of the court pending an auctioneer's report to the court to auction them to defray the court fine.
