President Akufo Addo has urged people of the Volta Region to take the referendum as a step towards development.
Speaking at the 30th-anniversary celebration of the Akatsi District Assembly, on Monday, at the start of his two-day tour of the Volta Region, President Akufo-Addo noted that the district assembly concept, introduced under the Rawlings era, is one of the most important contributions to the improvement of Ghana’s national governance.
“Now, it is time to deepen the process that began 31 years ago, and entrust to the people full sovereignty over the election of the MMDCEs and members of the District Assemblies,” he stated.
According to him, Ghana's democracy has gotten to a place where the people will have to decide on choosing their leaders at the various district levels.
He charged everyone to vote YES in the upcoming referendum.
He promised to make sure that the Akatsi South District Assembly is upgraded to municipal status.
The President of the Avenor Traditional Council, Togbe Dovlo Anumah VI, in a speech expressed appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for granting them a Traditional Council status as promised.
The Akatsi South DCE, Leo Nelson Adzidoga was grateful for the government's initiatives such as the Nation Builders Corp (NABCo) and the Free SHS programme.
