Ghana’s former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, has expressed confidence in President John Mahama as a winnable candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Presidential elections.
President Rawlings in his endorsement, also charged supporters of the party to work hard as the elections draw near.
In an interview with Metro TV in Accra on Friday, the former President said: “To be honest with you if Prof Mills had chosen John Mahama in 2004, history would have been different.”
The former President said there had been talk of his refusal to endorse President Mahama but that was not the case.
The former President is on record, as having called for the nomination of President Mahama as Vice-Presidential candidate for the NDC in 2004, but that did not materialise.
President Rawlings told Metro TV that during his travels to Techiman, Nandom, Yendi and Kumasi, he sought the support of the traditional leaders towards a peaceful election process.
President Rawlings’ trip was climaxed with the signing of the Peace Pact by all the Presidential candidates on Tuesday, November 27.
