Professor Edmund Delle, former Chairman of the CPP has announced his bid to contest the party's chairmanship position again.
Professor Edmund Delle, former National Chairman of the Convention People's Party, (CPP) at the weekend called on Nkrumaists to be resolute and defend the principles and tenets of Nkrumahism in the face of daunting challenges.
He said: "The daunting challenges facing the party are the works of reactionary forces that intend to divert the party's attention and resources from focusing on strategies for Election 2012.
“We must watch out for propagandist tactics of causing internal antagonism, creating imaginary enemies among comrades and trumpeting our differences to cause confusion amongst the rank and file for their selfish gains."
Interacting with journalists to explain the rationale for his comeback bid, Prof Delle appealed to CPP members, sympathizers and activists throughout the country not to be perturbed, but remain
focused, unmovable and concentrate on the ultimate goal of revamping CPP as a political force in the country.
He identified the bane of the CPP as disunity, lack of effective means for communication; disloyalty, self-seekers, sowing of seeds of suspicion among key players and factionalisms.
The Aspiring National Chairman and Leader gave the assurance that under his leadership, the party hierarchy would mobilize and use tested men, problem solvers to help CPP to surmount the hiccup.
He said: "What is important is for all members, from the national executives through the regions, constituencies and the ward levels, to focus on the common agenda of the CPP of liberating Ghana from
economic enslavement once again."
Prof Delle cautioned members against creating internal infractions. “Internal bickering has not helped us in the past and would not help us in the future…we must bury our differences join hands together
and fight for the interest of mother Ghana,” he said.
"The masses would not forgive the CPP if we fail to provide a humane leadership to once again liberate Ghana and to propel the nation forward.”
He stated that, as a Chairman, he would revamp the internal structures for conflict resolution, adding, "CPP is a big family and as such family matters must be solved within and we should not run to
the outside world first, let us use internal mechanism for conflict resolution".
Responding to questions, Prof Delle explained that since exiting the party’s frontline role in 2007, he had kept a back role profile to give the leaders room to operate.
“However I have continued to support the party through various means…as a committed loyal party member and as a seasoned politician you must provide support at all times.”
Prof Delle said: “My come back is to combine experience, tenacity, maturity, technical know how and political vibrancy as well as ability to work with all democratic stakeholders to the advantage
of the CPP.”
The CPP has fixed April 29 and 30 for its National Delegates Congress to elect National Executives, which the incumbent Chairman Mr Ladi Nylander is not contesting.
