Editor of the Africa Sports newspaper, Kwabena Yeboah says Marcel Desailly must seriously consider letting off his other commitments if he wants to land the Black Stars job. Kwabena Yeboah was speaking on the Joy Sports Link, Saturday. The prolific writer and ace commentator identified the former French international’s business commitments as a hindrance as talks continue between him and the FA to possibly land the coaching Job of the Black Stars. Kwabena Yeboah said in the interview that the 1998 world cup winner must be ready to give up those commitments and be able to concentrate fully on the Black Stars job. “He is a very busy person and if he has to accept the job he has to cancel quite a number of these contracts. As we speak the truth of the matter is that Marcel Desailly is in a comfort zone where after expressing his views on a match earn so much money,” Kwabena Yeboah told the host of the Joy Sports Link Ernest Koranteng. After hanging his boots in 2006, Desailly had to concentrate on many endorsement deals and his private business interests which have since taken the better of his time. He worked for BBC Sport in the United Kingdom during the 2006 World Cup, as one of their Match of the Day analysts. He also worked for BBC Sport at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and Euro 2008 and is a regular commentator for French television channel Canal Plus. He also became a spokesperson for sports betting website Betclic. In 2010 Desailly joined the ITV Sport team for their World Cup coverage from South Africa. Desailly is a supporter of the 1GOAL Education for All campaign. He is also the UNICEF national Goodwill Ambassador for Ghana. A mobile video game entitled Marcel Desailly Pro Soccer, developed by Gameloft was released for mobile phones Joy Sports understands that the FA has almost reached a deal with the former French international with his business interests and proposed salary being the only factors that are delaying his confirmation. Marcel Desailly’s playing career took him through Nantes and Olympique Marseille in France, AC Milan, Chelsea and the gulf where he featured for Al Gharafa and Quatar FC. As a coach he is yet to handle any team and will have his very first experience if he lands the Black Stars job. The former French international is being considered together with Sellas Tetteh and current Assistant Coach Kwesi Appiah by the FA for the position which Serbian Goran Stevanovic was relieved of some weeks back. Barring any last minute hitches the FA will name the new Coach of the Black Stars by Wednesday April 11.
