A development plan for the country is being worked at to be commissioned this year, said the National Development Planning Commission.
A draft document has already been put together by a group of experts and the commission is expected to begin consultations on the plan soon.
Speaking to Joy News, the Director General of the NDPC, Dr Regina Adutwum, disclosed the Commission is gradually positioning itself as the country's planner regardless of which government is in power.
The commission has been putting together the country's development strategies and is now collaborating with experts to produce a development plan that hopefully all governments will be obliged to follow.
She said the fine details of the plan are still being worked on by the experts from the academia and others in private practice. But she hints that it is supposed to lead Ghana into the middle-income status.
The NDPC boss explained that it seeks to position the economy as an agro-based one, and use agricultural produce to power industry as well as expand other sectors.
The private sector will be supported to expand to be the main employer and poverty reduction will become less important in the country's economic diction. But probably the biggest challenge to the NDCP is the ability to make the document a national one that will be accepted by all citizens as well as subsequent governments.
Dr Adutwum said the commission is carefully planning a communication strategy to achieve that.
She said the first in the series of broad consultations, starts with members of parliament in a couple of weeks. She said the commission wants to ride on the back of the golden jubilee euphoria to launch the plan to achieve maximum ownership by the people.
