Diageo PLC, the parent company of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) has committed to further growth and investment in its business in the country.
This was revealed when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led a delegation to pay a visit to Diageo PLC - London, headquarters of Guinness Ghana.
As a key stakeholder in GGBL, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II King of Asanteman -- where GGBL’s flagship factories is situated -- used the visit was to familiarize himself with the operations of Diageo PLC.
Ekwunife Okoli, Managing Director of Africa Regional Markets of Diageo said “over the years, Diageo and Asanteman have enjoyed a great relationship that has led to the growth and development of both parties.
“We appreciate the fortitude of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to develop Asanteman and on behalf of the entire Diageo team I congratulate him [Otumfuo] on his 15th anniversary and wish him more successful years as Asantehene.”
He said despite the current economic challenges facing the country, Diageo recognises the opportunities in Ghana and is committed to grow its business in the country.
He revealed that in 2013 for instance, the multinational drinks manufacturer completed a £27million expansion project in its Kaasi Brewery and invested another £3 million in an innovative spirits packaging line its Achimota brewery.
“We are also working tirelessly to develop a sustainable supply chain with our local raw material agenda which will see a significant shift from the importation of raw materials for production to sourcing raw materials locally in Ghana”, Ekwunifie Okoli said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation to Diageo for the reception at the Diageo head office as well as the continuously investments in Asanteman and Ghana by the company.
He said Diageo’s activities were providing employment opportunities and economic growth in the country.
Otumfuo was accompanied by Chief of Staff and advisors from the Manhyia Palace.
