The migration to the digital broadcast regime in the country is expected to begin in Accra and Kumasi by March next year before extended to other regions.
All television stations are expected to migrate from analogue to a new digital platform by June 2015 as part of requirements by the International Telecoms Union.
The migration is expected to give television viewers enormous benefits such as clearer pictures. Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu tells JOYBUSIENSS all is set for the first phase of the project to take off.
“The contractor that won the bid would soon commence work in Accra and Kumasi. We expect that before the end of first quarter of 2013 parts of the country would have gone digital for the rest would follow. They are now processing funding with the Finance Ministry” he noted.
The Communications Minister has also told JOY-BUSINES, the migration could allow for the allocation of new GSM spectrum licenses after 2013
