Mr Lawrence Bampoe, a Programs Assistant of Institution of Democratic Governance (IDEC), has urged District Assembly aspirants to work hard to deliver their promises after they have been elected.
He observed that, one major challenge facing the District Assembly election was that, the electorate did not appreciate the importance of voting as well as have confidence in the assembly members and therefore aspirants needed to prove themselves by working hard to do what was expected of them.
Mr Bampoe was speaking at a platform organized by the IDEC in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC) at Aburi to present candidates of the District Assembly to the electorate.
He explained that the platform was being organized to help to deepen democracy and also create more awareness of the District Assembly election.
He said it was also to bridge the interface gap between citizens and assembly men and women by providing the electorate the opportunity to discuss issues of concern in their communities with the aspirants.
The aspirants, he said also got the opportunity to demonstrate their preparedness to play their role in promoting good local governance.
Five candidates in three electoral areas including a woman were made to address the gathering and answered questions posed from both the moderator of the forum and observers.
