Mr Williams Mensah, General Secretary of the Local Government Workers Union (LGWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has appealed to government to stop various District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies from privatising the collection of Property rates.He said if the privatisation was allowed, it would affect the jobs of permanent staff that had worked for several years. It would also derail government efforts towards solving unemployment problems facing the country.Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, Mr Mensah said
instead, the services of the Institute of Local Government Studies must be engaged to train revenue collectors to upgrade their skills.Mr Mensah said the Union was ready to lend its support towards such training.Source: GNA
