The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, is remaining steadfast in his stance that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cannot evade responsibility for Ghana's current economic challenges.
Mr. Mahama stressed that every member of the Akufo-Addo administration must be held accountable regarding the nation's economic state.
During a town hall meeting in Tamale, Mr Mahama reiterated his conviction that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has mismanaged the country's affairs and must be ousted out of office.
He asserted that all government officials will be held accountable for their actions and inactions under his leadership.
“Now, all those who contributed to the mess are attempting to distance themselves as if they were not involved. People have started claiming they were not in charge and that their voices weren’t heard, but they all played a part in the crisis, and none of them can evade responsibility. They all participated in cabinet meetings and collectively made decisions.”
“All of them ‘dey inside’, Jack Toronto and all his brothers, all of them are part of the mess we are going through. None of them can escape responsibility.
This follows an appeal by the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on Ghanaians to vote for him as the next president to give him the mandate to implement policies that will grow the country.
Addressing the nation on Wednesday, February 7, in Accra, the Vice President said he has learnt lessons from the seven years of the Akufo-Addo government and reviewed his visions for the country.
“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver's seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities," he said.
“Clearly, the initial conditions that we inherited in 2017 are not the same as will be in 2025. Therefore, my priorities will be different. We have done many good things and I will be seeking to build on them,” he noted.
Dr Bawumia assured that as President he will ensure he will create a government that will accommodate everyone to tap into the resourcefulness and talents of people irrespective of our different ethnic, political and religious backgrounds.
Nevertheless, Mr. Mahama insists that Dr. Bawumia must take responsibility for the challenges he contributed to alongside President Akufo-Addo.
