A New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential hopeful, Mr Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has said that succession bids based on monetary enticement could spell doom and reduce the fortune of the party in the general elections. He has therefore urged delegates to its December 22 Congress to be wary of such ''sumptuous monetary largesse" and remain steadfast and show that their conscience was not for sale. Speaking to party functionaries at Hohoe, Mr Agyarko said the corporate ideals and interest of the NPP transcended monetary influences, and alerted party supporters to guard against such events or collectively blame one another for "allowing money to becloud our thinking". He said his administration would rebuild and rejuvenate party structures to be operational all-year-round with functional salary for executives at national, regional and district levels to empower the grassroots members. Mr Agyarko said President John Agyekum Kufuor's successor, should be a leader and visionary with a mission to encapsulate the gains of the NPP and fashion out more radical policies and programmes towards the accelerated achievement of a middle-income country in the shortest time. The Presidential Aspirant said he is endowed with the competences, wits and guts to prosecute this noble agenda when elected at the National Congress, come December 22. Mr Agyarko said the NPP tradition, which is among the noblest and oldest in Africa, would return from Congress more solid than ever, stating that since 1952 it had always done that to perfection and the December one would not be different. He said confidently that history would be repeating itself again, as Congress would elect a candidate with less financial endowment as was the case in 1992 and 1996 Congress, which elected the late Professor Adu Boahene and candidate Mr Kufuor respectively.Source: GNA
