The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has issued a stern warning to African nations, advising against using insecurity as a pretext to undermine democratic values.
The Advocacy and Policy Engagement Director at CDD-Ghana, Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante, stressed the imperative for African nations to uphold democratic standards and principles.
In an interview on Citi TV on Wednesday, March 27, Dr. Asante underscored the need for transparency and honesty to prevent exacerbating the security challenges facing the continent.
He also emphasised the significance of conducting elections through fair and competitive processes to ensure their credibility.
“If we are not going to be truthful and forthright about what kind of standards are needed, we will just keep creating an even worse problem.
“We have to speak up, we have to speak truth to power. For competitive processes when it is fair most people will walk away and say hands up and say yes I lost,” he stated.
