The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abubakari Mahama II, has advised former President John Mahama against accumulating personal wealth and properties if re-elected in the upcoming 2024 elections.
During a courtesy call by Mahama at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Ya Na urged the former president to prioritise leaving a meaningful legacy rather than amassing wealth.
He cautioned Mr Mahama not to repeat the mistakes of his first tenure and emphasised the need for a leader who focuses on building a lasting legacy for the benefit of the nation.
“I believe you’re not coming to make more money for your family, but to leave a legacy that not only your children will be proud of but will pave the way for them wherever they may find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker.”
The Overlord of Dagbon also advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer to be cautious of fake friends who might undermine his government if he wins the 2024 elections.
“The most important thing for you at this stage of your political life is to be able to tell who your true friends are from the opportunistic ones. You were there once, and it shouldn’t be difficult for you to understand,” he advised.
The advice came during Mahama's 'Building Ghana Tour' in Mion, Gushegu, and Yendi constituencies in the Northern Region.
The Overlord stressed the importance of Mahama surrounding himself with trustworthy individuals to ensure a successful government.
The tour continued with activities in the four constituencies within the Tamale Township on the second day.
