The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has in a press briefing disclosed that the country's Covid-19 case count is seeing a steady decline.
This he says is based on the reduction in the number of active cases recorded by health facilities recently.
He stated that "Active cases declined from over 8,000 to less than 5,000 over the past 4 weeks" and this, according to his report, was realized before the start of the Covid-19 vaccination programme on March 2.
Giving details on the daily reported cases, Mr Aboagye stated that the number of reported cases at the health facilities had declined from 800 cases to about 400 within a month.
This development he said, has resulted in the reduction of patient admissions in the hospitals from a daily number of 270 to about 150 cases in the Greater Accra Region, the epicentre of the pandemic.
In his address, the Director mentioned that over 200,000 persons have had the first dose of vaccination while they wait for the second to begin in April 2021.
Overall, Mr Kuma-Aboagye indicated that there are 81,299 (93.7%) discharges/recoveries, 656 deaths (CFR of 0.76%) and a total of 4,782 (5.5%) active cases.
Currently the number of people with critical cases admitted at the hospital is 25, total severe cases is 66 and the total mild to moderate cases is 86 putting the total cases on admission at 177.
