The Pan-African Transport Leadership Centre has honoured three Ghanaians for their sterling leadership qualities, roles and contributions to the development of Africa.They are the Minister of Health, Major (Retd) Courage Quashigah, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, Sampson Kwaku Boafo and Dr Felix Kwaku Anyah, Chief-Executive Officer of the Holy Trinity SPA and Health.The awardees were presented with certificates and plaques. The Pan-African Transparent Leadership Centre which has its regional head office in South Africa, is a consortium of African intellectuals committed to the promotion of quality leadership in Africa. The centre also has an office in Accra, Ghana.Presenting the awards, the coordinator of the awards, John Akperashi Gum said it was to reawaken leadership on the continent that the centre instituted the prestigious award in the name of a great African that has re-written the name of the continent in gold.Mr Gum said the award winners were selected after a thorough screening and evaluation exercise, which underlined the centre's recognition of leadership as one of the greatest fundamental problems confronting the continent."It therefore became imperative for the centre to dive into leadership evaluation and assessment with a view of identifying leaders who have offered noble and enduring leadership that, if well emulated and consolidated, could emancipate and transform the continent."The coordinator said one of the ways to spur such pace-setting leaders is by public celebration, identification, appreciation and reward for their striving efforts and hoped this will also motivate and encourage up-coming youth to work with distinction.In a brief remark, Major Quashigah commended the Centre for instituting the award, saying heroes in Africa needed to be celebrated to spur the youth on to achieve similar feats.He decried the description of Africa as the poorest continent, saying “we need to erase these negative perceptions about Africa in order to encourage her sons to work hard for the prosperity of the continent."Nine Nigerians were also rewarded by the centre.Source: Ghanaian Times
