Security Analyst at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) Dr. Kwesi Ennin says the Palaver allegation that President Kufuor intends to declare a state of emergency during the December elections should be treated with utmost contempt.
He said the investigation into the allegation by National Security would rather give credibility to an otherwise baseless piece of information.
“By dignifying this story with an investigation by National Security we are then saying there is an element of possible truth in it.”
The Ghana Palaver on Friday published a story alleging that President Kufuor had met with Service Commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces to declare a state of emergency, to facilitate the continuous stay in power by the New Patriotic Party.
The meeting the paper alleged was attended by Major General Ayiku and other Service Commanders.
However, Joy checks indicate that the Major General passed away last year.
In an interview on Joy FM’s News Night on Friday, Ametor Quame, features editor of the Ghana Palaver said they stand by their story.
He however admitted the bit about General Ayiku was an error, saying “that was the soft spot of the story”
