Businessman and renowned entrepreneur Dr Kofi Amoah was on Saturday, August 5 honoured at the prestigious Tech EMINENCE Awards held at the Accra Technical University auditorium.
Dr Amoah, popularly known as Citizen Kofi was honoured for his contribution to technical and vocational education.
The event coincided with this year’s graduation ceremony for students who have successfully completed their studies.
Addressing faculty members and the graduating class of 2023, Dr Amoah stressed that the pivotal role that technical and vocational education plays in shaping the future must be recognised.
Speaking on the theme ‘Promoting Technical and Vocational Education for National Industrialisation’, the business magnate underscored how TVET, among others, bridges the gap between theory and practice.
“It emphasises experimental learning, allowing students to gain hands-on experience through internships, apprenticeships, and practical training,” he told the gathering, including faculty members.
“This practical exposure not only enhances their skills and knowledge but also instills in them a sense of responsibility, discipline, and work ethic.
“These qualities are invaluable in the professional world, where success is often determined by one’s ability to apply knowledge effectively.”
He however noted that the benefits of TVET can only be fully realised through collaboration and synergy.
“It is the collective responsibility of the government, educational institutions, industries, and society at large to create an ecosystem that nurtures technical education,” he said.
Dr Amoah therefore called for investments into the state-of-the-art infrastructure, for instance, and update curricula to align with industry needs in order to make the most from TVET.
Outstanding students of the various technical universities were honoured at the awards event.
