Dr Bashiru Korey, a State Attorney, has appealed to the government to consider the special needs of the blind and other physically challenged children and allocate more resources towards their education.
He said it cost more to educate one disabled child than his physically fit counterpart and therefore the tendency to share educational resources equally among them was misplaced.
Dr Korey, who is an old boy of the Wa Methodist School for the Blind, was speaking at the Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebration of the School at Wa on Saturday.
Dr Korey appealed to parents of such children not to send them to special schools and abandon them there.
Parents must instead support them to complete their education in order to contribute their quota to the development of the society, adding that many well educated disabled people had become bread winners for their families.
He appealed to the children to take advantage of the opportunities offered them at the school to prepare for a decent livelihood in the future by being disciplined and obeying their teachers’ instructions.
“The school was founded on discipline and you should know that you will one day account for every Ghanaian pesewa spent on your education through what you will become in future”, Dr Korey said.
