Operations of Future Global Resources, formerly known as Golden Star Resources Limited, has been closed down temporarily until the security situation at the mines improves.
The closure follows a protest by the youth of Dumasi a community in the Prestea-Huni Valley municipality of the Western Region on the company’s premises on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
The youth who feel short-changed by the mine went to the site to protest and vandalized properties belonging to the company.

They set the company’s digital security post, the union office, and some other places in the company ablaze, while lots of cars belonging to the company had their windscreens destroyed by the angry protester.
As if that was not enough, the youth marched to the administration block, destroyed air conditioners, ransacked some offices, and destroyed other properties worth millions of dollars.

In a memo signed by the company’s General Manager Ahmed-Salim Adam, he indicated that all operational and administrative sites of the Bogoso Prestea Mine have been and will remain closed temporarily, until the security situation improves.at which time employees will be advised to return to work’.

Municipal chief executive for Prestea Huni-Valley Dr. Isaac Dasmani and the municipal security council after touring the mines said the destruction caused huge.
“They are still accessing the degree of damage, I must say a lot of properties destroyed and they have to take their time before starting their operation “
