The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of Ghana has revealed plans to upgrade its international travel documents to improve global recognition and ensure compliance with international standards.
This is contained in a post shared on the official Facebook page of DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey.
It was noted that the upgrade seeks to resolve instances where Ghanaian International Driver’s Licences (IDLs) and International Vehicle Permits (IVPs) are occasionally rejected by certain foreign countries.
As part of the initiative, the DVLA will introduce a Biometric International Driver’s Licence and a Biometric International Vehicle Permit, both of which will feature a bio-data page that fully meets International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) specifications.

According to the DVLA, the upgrade represents a strategic move toward establishing a modern, secure, and globally verifiable system for Ghanaian drivers and vehicles operating abroad.
The rollout of the new biometric documents is scheduled to commence across all DVLA offices nationwide in 2026.
