A 32-year-old motorbike rider at Bedzeme-Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh after an attempted robbery on the night of Monday, September 22.
Emmanuel Akakpo, who reported the incident at the Dzodze Police Station, said he had been hired by a woman from the White Dove Hotel, Dzodze, to Akanu Old Road.
On his return, near Bubune Junction, close to the ECG payment office, two unidentified young men armed with a single-barrelled locally manufactured gun blocked his way and demanded his motorbike.
When he tried to speed off, the assailants opened fire, injuring him in the thigh.
Despite his injury, Akakpo managed to disable his unregistered Sanya motorbike using its remote-controlled lock, preventing the attackers from escaping with it. The suspects fled into a nearby bush.
Residents who heard his cries for help rushed to the scene and took him to the Sabu-Dav Clinic for first aid.
He was later referred to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze for further treatment, including a scan.
The police have issued a medical report form to the victim for ongoing treatment and are pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
