The Super Eagles of Nigeria yesterday played a goalless draw against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in a friendly game in Durban, South Africa, ahead of the 2010 Nations Cup. The match, which was played at the ABSA Sharks Stadium under closed doors, was quite satisfactory according to the chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi. He noted that the game enabled the technical crew of the team to see what the team looks like especially as the Eagles will play its first game of the competition on Monday. "The boys played well and they expressed some of the things the coaches instructed them to do which was an indication for better things to come. "With what I saw the boys played against Zambia, it was evident that they would perform excellently well in the Nations Cup," Ogunjobi said. The team's Media Officer, Peterside Idah, said after the friendly game that the players showed a little of what Nigerians should expect when the competition proper begins at the weekend. He stressed that, the decision to play the match behind closed doors was deliberate. "It would be unwise to allow crowd come into the arena to watch us prepare our team. The Zambia FA president, Kalusha Bwalya, insisted on this in the agreement we had before the match. "If it is thrown opened, our opponents would have a free day assessing us secretly, which is not proper, so playing behind closed doors was deliberate," he said. All the Eagles key players played in the friendly against Zambia, "because of the roving substitution except for Osaze Odemwingie who is injured. The team's doctors disclosed that the star player may not be fit to play in the opening game against Egypt. The Nigeria Football Federation has concluded plans for a charter flight to take the contingent from Durban on Friday afternoon to Luanda, the capital of Angola. Flight time will be four-and-half hours. The Bid Air aircraft will take off from Durban at 1pm South Africa time (12 noon Nigeria time).
