Eastern Regional Minister, Dr. Akyem Appea-Kubi says the NDC government has made so much impact in Akyem and that many hearts have been won for the party. He believes the good works of the NDC will change the voting pattern in the area and fetch more votes for the ruling party. The Regional Minister was speaking to Joy News after picking his nomination form to contest primary for the Akyem Swedru Constituency. This is Dr. Appea-Kubi’s third time attempt at the Akyem Swedru seat. He failed in the last two attempts. The Regional Minister sounded so optimistic that he declared 2012 as his year.He believes he will be lucky in his third attempt, just like Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills, who won the 2008 Presidential election on his third attempt. He said a lot has changed in Akyem and that will work to the party’s advantage. The opposition New Patriotic Party has dominated Akyem and holds most of the 14 seats in the area. But the Regional Minister believes the NDC government has done so much in the area and the people of Akyem have seen the difference. “A lot of things have changed. People have seen what the NDC government has done for this nation over a short period of time. When we went round to inspect projects in Akyem Swedru, all the Chiefs in the Constituency were there and they attested to the fact that the NDC government within a short period has done a lot”, he said. The NPP Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Joseph Bosompem who defeated Dr. Appea-Kubi in 2008, lost the NPP primary recently and his supporters are not happy. This has brought cracks within the NPP in the area. And the Regional Minister believes if he gets the nod to lead the NDC for the third time he would win. “That is going to be to my advantage. There’s no doubt that with a lot of hard work and with the work that we are doing now the eight thousand votes, we shall be able to over that and even get a lot more votes that before", he added. So far Dr. Akyem Appea-Kubi is the only person who picked up the nomination form from the Constituency, even though there are signs that others might contest as well.
