A member of government’s communications team, Wonder Madilo is blaming the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Statistical Service for the reported shortage of registration materials in parts of the country, particularly NDC strongholds.The ruling NDC has expressed grave concerns about the acute shortage of registration materials for the on-going biometric registration exercise particularly in its stronghold - the Volta region.A statement issued by the party’s Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quarshigah noted that since the start of the last phase of the registration exercise, most centers in the Volta region have remained non-functional due to the shortage of 1A and 1C forms, cartridges as well as laminates.Appearing on Joint Caucus, a political talk show on Joy News Television on Multi TV, Mr. Madilo noted that the Electoral Commission “has not been forthright in some of their approaches”.“I think that what they should have done is to pre-empt some of these things happening” he said adding “I have heard the arguments over there that you can’t tell how many people are going to register. But that’s unfortunate, you can’t say that you can’t tell. What are the regional offices of the EC doing? What are the district offices of the EC doing? What is the coordination like in the whole exercise and so that defeats the arguments that you can’t tell”.According to him, the Ghana Statistical Service has also failed in its bid by not providing accurate data to enable the EC carry out the registration exercise effectively.“I think that the unavailability of data for this exercise by the Statistical Service is also partly the reason why we have some of these shortages” Wonder Madilo said.He argued that “provisional figures are not enough. It means that they are subject to change, either reduction or there could be an increase and so you can’t really work with provisional figures.”“We’re talking about a national exercise. You’re talking about a whooping sum of money being spent on this exercise so I thought we could have taken it a bit more serious” he opined.
