The founder and only flag bearer aspirant of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Mr Kofi Wayo says the Electoral Commission (EC) is not living up to expectation, describing it as an unserious organisation.
His comment follows a statement made by the EC that the URP and some two others all contesting in the December polls are not showing the makes of true political parties.
Speaking to Citi FM on Friday, Mr Wayo accused the EC of failing to do adequate background checks on his party. He asked, “Is the EC a serious organisation?”
The URP is expected to hold congress in the next few months to elect a flag bearer but already its founder has been under fire for working to avoid competition in the race for the party’s leader.
Reacting to comments that he may be craving for a yes-or-no election at the party’s congress, Mr Wayo, who described himself as ‘the right man,’ said he needed no contender since he is the best person to lead the URP.
“I’m right so why do I talk about another person who is right? I’m hoping no one runs because I want to win, don’t I?” he asked.
Mr Wayo who spoke in his usual foreign accent said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) governments had failed Ghanaians, adding that the URP hopes to establish a “machinery to save the people.”
He also accused the media of biased reportage. The media, he claimed had become what he called a “mass choir” for politicians.
For now Mr Wayo remains the only candidate aspiring to lead the URP to the polls in the December elections.
