The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is to reprint all ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions due to incorrect serial numbers.
The EC's Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, announced this during an emergency IPAC meeting on Friday, November 15.
According to him, while the printing of ballot papers has generally proceeded smoothly, concerns have been raised in recent weeks regarding the serialisation of ballots for the Ahafo and Volta regions.
“The challenge faced by the Commission has been with the serialisation of the numbers on the ballot papers," he said.
He explained that the Commission has taken serious steps to address the issue and has deployed teams to the printing house to rectify the anomalies.
He noted that gaps still remain, prompting the Commission to decide to reprint the papers for the Ahafo and Volta regions.
Mr Tettey further stated that the Commission has resolved to have both the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the two regions printed by Buck Press and Acts Commercials.
“We wish to inform you that we will share the printing timetable with you by the close of today,” he said.
He added that plans for the disposal of the defective ballots will also be shared with stakeholders and political parties, noting that a certificate of destruction will be signed by all parties present during the process, with copies provided to each party.
Editor's Note: This story has been edited to correct an earlier indication that the faulty ballots were to be recalled. The EC explains that those ballots have not yet been distributed to the respective regions and a recall is therefore not required.
