The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, has inspected key power infrastructure projects in the Ashanti region.

Accompanied by the Deputy Managing Director of Engineering & Operations, Ing. Kwadwo Ayensu Obeng; the Acting Director of Operations, Ing. Ebenezer Ghunney; and the regional leadership team led by Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager of Ashanti Sub-Transmission, along with the General Manager of Ashanti West, Ing. George Amoah, Mr. Kpekpena's first port of call was the construction site of the Barekese sub-transmission tower line.

The Barekese sub-transmission line serves the Ghana Water Dam site, Offinso, and beyond.

Any supply challenge to that area invariably affects the water supply to people in Greater Kumasi, hence the upgrade.

The ongoing reconstruction of the Barekese double-circuit sub-transmission tower line, which is being upgraded from 150 mm² to 400 mm² conductors, is expected to enhance voltage quality and reliability for the Ghana Water Dam site, Offinso, and surrounding communities.

 This will see ageing transmission towers along the route being replaced to improve network resilience.

The visiting acting managing director's next stop was the Anwomaso-Airport Substation.

Mr. Kpekpena and his team visited the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point

Here, the Acting MD inspected ongoing construction works aimed at improving bulk capacity transfer into Kumasi Central.

At the Ridge Bulk Supply Point, he assessed civil construction works and the potential replacement and expansion of the 33 kV GIS panels in readiness to receive increased capacity from GRIDCo’s 145 MVA transformers.

“These projects underline our strong commitment to improving operational efficiency and ensuring reliable power for the people of Ashanti and beyond," says Ing. Kpekpena.

According to him, the expansion projects are aimed at ensuring a reliable power supply to ECG's customers in the Ashanti region.

"Every upgrade we undertake in Ashanti is focused on one thing—ensuring a reliable power supply for our communities, businesses, and industries."

Meanwhile, the Acting MD has urged the contractors working on the transmission lines, Lutton Engineering, to speed up work for the timely completion of projects. In response, the contractor assured ECG management of timely delivery to enhance supply reliability in the region.

 Head of Public Relations of Ashanti Sub-transmission, Collins Manu, who later briefed the media, said the visit was part of the Acting MD's operational focus on improving network operations and power supply reliability.
