The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti West Region, has designated the power distribution line serving the military command in the Ashanti Region as an essential feeder, with a contractor set to begin infrastructure rehabilitation works by the end of this month.

The announcement was made during a stakeholder engagement held between senior officials from ECG’s Ashanti West Region and the Commanding Officer of the 4BN, at the 4th Infantry Battalion (4BN) headquarters in Kwadaso, on Friday, March 13, 2026.

ECG Ashanti West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, addressing the military command, said a patrol of the Complex feeder, the distribution line supplying the military installation, had already been conducted, and several defects identified.

“As part of efforts to improve power supply to the military command, our team patrolled the line extensively and identified some defects. Starting from the end of this month, a contractor will visit site to start correcting identified defects like replacing weak jumpers and rotten poles, clearing vegetation interfering with the network, retensioning sagged conductors, upgrading undersized conductors among others,” he said.

He described the military command as one of the region’s most strategic institutions, citing its critical role in national security as justification for prioritizing its power supply.

“As a company, our mandate is to provide quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the economic development and growth of the country. The Military Command in the Ashanti Region is one of our key stakeholders that ensures the safety and security of people, hence our unwavering commitment to ensuring stable power supply to the command,” he said.

Ing. Amoah further disclosed that when power is received in the Ashanti Region, ECG’s protocol is to first restore supply to essential and critical installations, including hospitals and security facilities, before other consumers.

“This ensures we also contribute our quota to the national security of our country,” he added.

Ing. Amoah also commended Lt. Col. Wumbiedow for deploying military personnel to support ECG’s asset digitization exercise during the implementation of the Customer Assets and Information Management System (CAIMS) project in recent years, describing the collaboration as a model for institutional partnership.

The Commanding Officer of the 4BN, Lt. Col. Wumbiedow in response welcomed the renewed cooperation and praised ECG for improving public communication around its operations.

He acknowledged the company’s responsiveness in restoring power to the command during outages and underscored the critical role electricity plays in military operations.

“Even as military personnel, we need electricity. Our operations will be difficult without it, since electricity is crucial for safeguarding some of our equipment, enhances security and visibility at night, and makes our night operations much easier,” he said.

The Commanding Officer pledged the military command’s continued support for ECG’s operations in the region and committed to deepening the institutional relationship between the Ghana Armed Forces and ECG.

The engagement is part of ECG Ashanti West Region’s broader stakeholder relations drive, which the company says is aimed at bridging the gap between the utility provider and its consumers, fostering trust, and improving revenue collection.
