The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has ordered staff who had been promoted during the short-lived Power Distribution Service (PDS) regime to revert to their previous positions.
According to the ECG, following the termination of the transaction agreements relating to the Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the Electricity Company of Ghana on October 23, 2019, the transaction was deemed to have not occurred and all staff were required to revert the previous positions.
The ECG said their promotion was an anomaly as it was contrary to the company’s administrative policy and practice since they had not gone through the requisite promotion interview.
In a letter sighted by Myjoyonlimne.com, it said such persons will not be financially penalised for the administrative anomaly.
However, they will revert to their previous salary grade with commensurate conditions and benefits from March 1, 2020.
In essence, ECG’s management has reversed the appointment of 42 staff that promoted after the PDS fiasco
The Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) in response to the administrative ‘correction’ says the decision by the Board is a welcomed relief as it could have led to the eminent industrial unrest from the 6,500 staff of the Company.
According to them, the ECG board’s action will create equity and ensure the collective agreement of the Union in the Company.
They have however stated that they will resist any form of political pressure to change the position of the Union.
