JOYNEWS has learnt that over 24,000 customers of ECG have been unable to obtain meters because the Electricity Company of Ghana has run out of it.

Some customers in Cape Coast, Kasoa, Tema, Koforidua and Swedru are now sleeping in the dark until their meters are replaced.

Others who cannot wait are also said to have illegally connected the electricity and are using it for free.

A monthly average of about 800 applicants demand for the meters at each of the ECG branches in some of these towns. But for the past five months, requests are still pending, Joy News has learnt.

There is a backlog of applications for meters because the local supplier of these meters Electro CASH has not been able to meet the demand.

Some customers say they are frustrated.

“My meter developed a fault so I went to their office to report and they said there is no meter in the office so if the meter comes they will call me or I should call. It is really frustrating. I cannot even cook or store food in the refrigerator” a custome said.

The Director of Customer Services at ECG Arthur Forson has blamed the situation on delays from the local supplier Electro CASH.

He admitted that although there is a “short delay” and a shortage, the local supplier Electro Cash will be bringing more meters after May 25.
