I wonder if you've heard about ECG's latest ploy to make life miserable for the poor and middle class in Ghana? ECG has decided to change & relocate the prepaid meters to outside people's houses. They are now placed outside on the electricity pole that feeds the house that is on the public street.This means that you have to go out of your house to load credit onto the meter and also reset the meter.To make matters worse, the meter goes off and requires resetting - When power runs out; - With Surges; - With brownouts also.This means we have to go out at night to reset, go out during rain storms to reset the meter.Can you imagine a single old lady is expected to go out at whatever time the lights go out, there's a surge or brownout to reset her meter?To give you an example of how unthinking and uncaring and unaware ECG is on safety, armed robbers killed a policeman in our area; a driver was also attacked and his phone and food stolen, thieves have also stolen the electricity lines coming into the house a number of times and ECG expect us to go out of our gate at night and be waving cards at meters on a pole?!What nonsense?Another example of ECG's level of "compassion" The meters are placed on the pole that feeds the house and that pole is not necessarily in front of the house by the gate, so the person has to travel even further which may be behind your house. Can you imagine adding to the woes of a nursing mother?She will be expected to get up, get dressed and pick up her new baby, wrap her up against mosquitoes, open gate, lock gate, go round the corner and start waving cards at meters on poles. The meters are not even at ergonomic heights to make access easy.Another matter altogether is the design of the meters. You cannot see the information on the meter during bright sunlight. Yes they give a remote readout but that does not give enough information. What is Good? Which is what the remote readout states.With the installations, the meters come with Ghc5 on it by the time they finish the installation 2 cedis would have been gone. All your credit you previously had on the old meter can only be reloaded after about 24hours. Even then you have to go to the ECG pay point to reload it. Of course the installation was done on a Saturday afternoon so no power as usual. That's ECG for you providing "quality, and safe services"
