Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, a 33-year old economist has been elected to contest the Nkoranza South Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in the 2008 general election.
Mr. Agyekum polled 177 votes to beat two other contenders, Mr. James Opoku-Worae, a retired teacher
who had 50 votes and Mr. Kwaku Poku Boah, a legal practitioner, who secured 22 votes, out of the 255
votes cast.
The elections, held at Nkoranza were conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.
In an acceptance speech, Mr. Agyekum thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and gave
the assurance that he would work hard to capture the
seat from the NPP.
Addressing a well-attended rally prior to the elections, Mr. Yaw Gyan, National Deputy Organiser of NDC, urged the people to consider the good policies and programmes undertaken by the NDC government and rally solidly behind the party to regain power next year.
He said it was under the NDC era that the Techiman-Nkoranza road was tarred and also electricity power extended to the area and called on the electorate to show their appreciation by voting massively for the party in 2008.
Mr. Owusu Agyemang, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman, called on members to remain faithful and committed to the party’s activities and work extra hard to woo more people to join it.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organiser, stressed the need for members and supporters of the party to live in unity and cooperate to enable the party to wrest power from the NPP.
He urged the candidates to rally solidly behind the party’s candidate in the constituency.
Mr. Peter Owusu Baffoe, Nkoranza South constituency chairman, commended the delegates and supporters for ensuring peaceful and fair primaries and advised them to remain royal and united towards the 2008 general election.
