Chair of the Executive Council of the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) said there has been an illegal attempt by a few of the Coalition’s members to take over the leadership of the group.
Kofi Asare said in a release that the members, who he said are less than 15% of the total 218 members of the Coalition, are not comfortable with the current leadership’s firm stance on some key government policies in the education sector.
GNECC is a civil society network championing the right to quality basic education in Ghana.

Our attention has been drawn to an attempt by some disgruntled members and staff of the Coalition to hold an illegal meeting to announce a takeover of the leadership of the Coalition.
Members of this group who number less than 30 [Less than 15% of our membership of 218] are apparently not comfortable with the current leadership’s firm stance on some key government policies in the education sector, especially the Ghana Partnership Schools project, the free SHS policy among others.
The said meeting which is being funded by some faceless persons was requisitioned through forgery of members’ signatures and various misrepresentations, leading to the fraudulent procurement of consent. The East Legon Police is currently investigating the case.
The Executive Council of GNECC and its wider membership, including the Northern Network for Education Development has since distanced themselves from the said meeting.
The Coalition wishes to assure all stakeholders that GNECC shall continue to be objective and resolute in its policy positions and shall not be influenced by any person or group of persons. As a civil society organization, our mandate is to hold government accountable and nothing less.
The outcome of this meeting must, therefore, be disregarded by all stakeholders.
Respectfully,
Kofi Asare
Chairman, Executive Council
