The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has emphasised the crucial relationship between peace and education, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in creating safe and supportive learning environments for children nationwide.
“Education can only flourish in an environment of peace and harmony,” the Minister stated. He appealed to parents, teachers, and policymakers to work together to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to learn.
The Education Minister is in the conflict areas of the Upper East Region to assess how students of senior high schools in those areas are coping with the WASSCE exams schedule to end on Friday. His visit took him to Zebila SHTS, among others.
In a specific appeal, the Minister called for the maintenance of peace and harmony across the nation, with particular emphasis on the Bawku area.
“Without peace, classrooms fall silent,” he stressed, emphasising that education remains the most powerful tool to end poverty, create opportunities, and uplift communities.
The Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to protecting educational gains and advancing efforts toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
He concluded his address by commending candidates currently sitting for their examinations, encouraging them to approach the process with confidence.
“The nation is proud of you,” he said, urging them to complete their exams with their heads held high.
