The Volta Regional Director of Education, Mr John Kosi Hobenu has asked proprietors and managers of private schools to explore opportunities that would facilitate holistic teaching and learning. He asked them to include technical, vocational and agricultural training at the Junior and Senior Secondary School levels in line with the Educational Reform Programme. "You have the capability and capacity to venture into such areas to make your products beneficial to society," he added. Mr Hobenu made the call when delivering the keynote address at the opening session of the 18th Volta Regional Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) Conference at Hohoe. The weeklong celebration is under the theme, "50 Years of Private Education in Ghana". Mr Hobenu suggested that mainstream character training should be included in their curriculum adding, "To provide academic excellence without a corresponding good moral conduct would be meaningless and could make the individual a social misfit". Mr Michael Dordzie, Volta Regional Chairman of GNAPS said proprietors and managers of private schools continued to complement Government's efforts to improve standards of education in the country but had been excluded in the distribution of textbooks and the recent nationwide de-worming exercise. He advised proprietors and managers of private schools to avoid unhealthy rivalry among them and remained focus to improve on the standard of education in the country. Source GNA
