Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (rtd) says he is hoping to grab the General Secretary position of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a bitter stint at the presidential level.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region told Joy New’s Araba Koomson that he is finally succumbing to pressure from admirers to contest the position.
“Initially I had a very strong position [in that] I am thinking of other issues so I wouldn’t concentrate on this matter, but the pressure was too intense that I decided that I should reflect seriously on the matter,” he said.
Captain Effah-Darteh said he is capable of taking up the challenge and disclosed that he would formally make his intention and plans for the party known within two weeks.
He said some groups and individuals are appealing to him to go for the post but denied urging these groups to front for him.
“The last thing I will do is to deceive myself,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Captain Effah-Darteh says he is treading cautiously because of unpleasant experience he had when he attempted the presidential slot of the NPP in 2007 for the 2008 national election.
“I have had my fingers burnt with the presidential campaign which ended on the rocks in a very unfair manner, and the way I suffered a defeat in Berekum parliamentary primaries.”
He said as at Thursday his conviction for the position of the scribe stood at “50:50” but his interest is growing, leaning towards “75:25”.
