Ekumfi has taken a historic step towards strengthening law and order with the sod-cutting ceremony for its first-ever District Police Headquarters at Ekumfi Essakyir, the district capital.

The event, held on Friday, was led by the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, who described the project as a “foundation for a safer, stronger Ekumfi.”

Addressing chiefs, elders, and residents, Dr Kwainoe stressed that peace and security were essential for development. For years, the district has relied on police support from neighbouring Mankessim, Jedu, and Saltpond, often resulting in delayed responses and overstretched personnel.

The new facility, he explained, would bring policing closer to residents, ensure quicker responses to emergencies, and reassure farmers, traders, fisherfolk, and students that their safety remains a priority.

The initiative forms part of the MP’s broader vision for holistic development in Ekumfi. A day before the ceremony, Dr Kwainoe distributed 35,000 coconut seedlings to farmers under a sustainable livelihood and climate resilience programme.

He also pledged to complete the long-abandoned Essuehyia Market and outlined further community projects, including festive programmes and preparations for a grand Ekumfi Akwambo Kese celebration next year.

Traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, clergy, and security officials joined in the ceremony, which was hailed as a transformative step for the district. In a symbolic act, Dr Kwainoe and the chiefs turned the soil together to mark the commencement of construction.

“Today, we are not just cutting sod,” the MP declared. “We are planting the seeds of safety, dignity, and prosperity. Together, we are building not just a Police Headquarters, but a stronger future for Ekumfi.”

With the project underway, residents of Ekumfi look forward to a renewed era of peace, security, and development.
