The Ankobeahene of Begoro, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, is set to appear before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council today, Monday, February 19, following accusations of endorsing John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Initially slated for Tuesday, February 13, the summon was rescheduled to February 19. The letter, signed by D. M. Ofori-Atta, the council's secretary, demands that Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II explain his actions.
The summon, issued on behalf of petitioners including Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe and Okyeame Owusu, alleges that Nana Owiredu Agyarko brought disrepute to the Begoro stool and subjected it to political ridicule by engaging in partisan politics.

During a campaign event attended by John Mahama, Nana Owiredu Agyarko purported to represent Nananom and the people of Begoro, making partisan political statements favoring the NDC, according to the petitioners.
They are seeking punitive customary sanctions against the chief if found liable.
Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II has been directed to appear before Nananom accompanied by any witnesses and to pay a hearing fee of GH¢1,000.
Meanwhile, the NDC suspects the summoning may be a cover-up for a simmering chieftaincy dispute. The party is therefore demanding fair hearing from the Council.
