The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to confronting corruption directly if elected in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing participants at his Governance Forum in Accra on Thursday, October 31, Mahama assured that tackling corruption would be a top priority in his administration.
Mahama outlined plans to investigate and prosecute corrupt officials, enlisting both local and foreign investigative expertise to ensure thorough and unbiased inquiries.
He emphasised that his approach would involve strengthening anti-corruption measures to hold public officials accountable for any misuse of office.
To reinforce transparency, Mahama proposed legislation to prevent political appointees from purchasing state assets, a measure aimed at curbing potential conflicts of interest and ensuring state property remains safeguarded.
This legislation would add a critical layer of accountability to governance processes, he explained.
Additionally, Mahama pledged to establish a state assets registrar to oversee and expedite cases of corruption involving government assets.
The registrar would serve as a dedicated entity focused on ensuring that corruption-related matters are handled effectively and in a timely manner, a step Mahama believes is essential for fostering public trust.
“I’m affirming my commitment to root out the canker of corruption. One of our tools to combat corruption, and make it a high-risk endeavour for any person, Operation Recover All the Loot, will investigate, and prosecute the persons involved in corruption, using both local and foreign expertise to achieve this objective."
“Closely linked to ORAL will be legislation to prohibit political appointees, politically exposed persons and all serving public officials from purchasing state assets. We shall address the detrimental phenomena of state capture by establishing a state asset registrar.”
