The National Election Security Taskforce has begun consultations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party steps up preparations for its presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026.

The engagement, held with the NPP’s Presidential Election Committee, was aimed at formally notifying the taskforce of the internal election and sharing essential details such as the election timetable, proposed venues and the range of activities expected ahead of the polls. Security officials indicated that such information is key to effective planning and deployment.

Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who addressed the meeting, described the interaction as a necessary step in ensuring smooth coordination between political parties and security agencies during internal electoral processes.

He noted that early consultations help security agencies anticipate potential challenges and put preventive measures in place.

Mr Yohuno assured the party that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, would work closely with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to guarantee a peaceful, transparent and well-organised primary. He emphasised that maintaining calm and order remains a top priority.

The National Election Security Taskforce reiterated its readiness to engage all stakeholders to safeguard public safety and uphold stability before, during and after the NPP’s presidential primaries, as part of broader efforts to ensure credible electoral processes nationwide.
