A 21-year-old electrician at Konongo, who posed as a staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.
Wisdom Selase Afari pleaded guilty to five counts of impersonation.
Police Chief Inspector Joseph Damanka told the court presided over by Jacob Boon that the complainant, Kwaku Blankson was a Senior Meter Reader at the Konongo ECG.
He said on May 2, Blankson had a phone call that the convict was going round some houses at Konongo Zongo and Freetown posing as staff of ECG demanding payment of electricity bills and reading of meters.
The prosecutor said Blankson went to Zongo where he met Afari in a corn mill shop briskly going about his supposed job.
Chief Inspector Damanka said when confronted, the accused said his superior officer called Blankson at the ECG authorized him to check the meters and the bills.
He remained speechless when Blankson identified himself and arrested Afari and handed him over to the police.Source: GNA
