Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has extended an invitation to private developers, including members of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) to embrace the revised strategy of the government in the provision of mass affordable housing for the middle to low-income earning Ghanaians.
The Minister disclosed this when he addressed a gathering at the grand opening of “Rehoboth Knightsbridge, Kwabenya”, an affordable housing project by Rehoboth Properties Limited in Accra this weekend.
He narrated that due to the huge housing deficit in the country, the government has revised its strategy on affordable housing by providing free land with requisite infrastructure to the designated sites.
“Apart from the free land and infrastructure services to these sites, the government is providing tax incentives to participating developers with the aim of making the cost of construction much lower, thereby making the houses truly affordable. I, therefore, charge all private developers, especially members of GREDA to collaborate with the government in this course”, added Asenso-Boakye.
The Minister also commended the management and staff of Rehoboth Properties Limited for their contribution to the provision of affordable housing in Ghana with the opening of Knightsbridge Kwabenya.
“I commend the management and staff of Rehoboth Properties Limited for staying committed to the noble cause of providing affordable homes to our people”, said Asenso-Boakye.
He concluded that “as a government, we are committed to creating the enabling environment for the housing sector to thrive”.
Managing Director of Rehoboth Properties, Mr. Gideon Ayiku Akrofi indicated that the Knightsbridge Kwabenya affordable housing project is a strategic move to provide decent homes for all Ghanaians and to bridge the gap between high-income earners and middle to low-income earners.
The event was highly attended by notable dignitaries, including Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament; the ArchBishop of Action Chapel International, His Eminence Nicholas Duncan Williams; Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Attah, a renowned clinical psychologist; Mr. Dan Sackey, Managing Director of ECOBANK; and Mr. Patrick Ebo Bonful, the President of Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA).
