It’s down to the wire for Emcee Africa II’s five finalists when the ultimate battle takes place on Saturday 25 July and DStv audiences in Botswana will get to catch the action live as they perform live.
South Africa’s Maraza, Ghana’s C-Real, Botswana’s Cibil Nyte, Kenya’s Point Blank and Nigeria’s Black Jeez will be given one last chance to impress the judges at Gaborone’s Fashion Lounge at an event that’s open to the public.
The judges are the who’s who of African hip-hop and they will decide which two finalists have the skills to take on Botswana’s Zeus in a one-on-one battle which will eventually decide who will wear the Emcee Africa II crown.
HHP (South Africa), Naeto C (Nigeria) and Nazizi (Kenya) are the trio to impress come Saturday night – and, as representation of African hip-hop royalty you can’t get any better.
HHP’s award-winning Motswako sound has earned him critical acclaim making him a strong contender for two Channel O Music Video Awards this year, including Most Gifted Male Video.
Also in the running in that category is Nigerian rapper Naeto C who may be on his way to a Masters Degree at Dundee University but is still unleashing hit after hit, among them “Ringtone” as well as his Channel O Music Video Award nominated ‘Ki Ni Big Deal’ (also up for
Most Gifted Video of the Year). The final judge is Nazizi who released her first single ‘Ni sawa tu” when she was 16 years and is considered the most successful female hip hop artist in East Africa.
The Kenyan artist is also a multi-award winner and she will be bringing her wide-ranging recording and live expertise to the judging process.
So what do the finalists have to do to make it to the ultimate stage and take home the main prize of $10 000, 00 in cash and the chance to jump on the hottest track of ’09 by collaborating with African Hip Hop Royalty?
