Some residents of Bortianor, a fishing community in the GA South District have been instructed to observe strict healthy lifestyles after doctors found them to be hypertensive and diabetic.
This was revealed during a medical screening exercise organized by the Nights and Ladies of Marshal court 63 of the St. Margret Mary Catholic Church in Dansoman.
The most common diseases found were high blood pressure, diabetes, malaria, diarrhea, worm infestation and dehydration.
Dr. Henry Awuvisi of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who led a team of doctors for the screening encouraged residents to regularly visit hospitals for check ups, engage in physical exercises and avoid unhealthy diets.
The annual program is organized as part of evangelism and humanitarian services undertaken to support less endowed communities in the country.
Similar outreach programs were organized at Tokuse in the Volta Region and Tetegu in the GA South District of the Greater Region.
