Parliament has for the third time deferred the much anticipated energy debate to next Week Tuesday.
The leadership of the House explained that it has to consider other important business at the expense of the energy debate.
Meanwhile, Joy News sources in Parliament say the Majority leadership of Parliament is pushing for a compromise with the energy debate. It is not clear what the two sides have been discussing but our sources confirm there are moves by the Majority to reverse to the content of the original half hour motion filed by the Minority.
The Majority Chief Whip, Kyei Mensah-Bonsu confirmed that they have been consulting with their colleagues on the other side to revise the motion at hand now. Though he denied Parliament is reverting to the half hour motion, he said “we all felt that if we had stuck to that it would have been a more useful approach than the rather divisive one.”
He said there is a possibility that next week’s motion might be sponsored by the two leaders in the House to avoid the heckling that characterized the previous debates.
“It would be sponsored by I guess the majority and the minority leaders that would push the nation forward…so that it would encourage people not to be antagonistic but to recognise the fact that we have crisis at hand and to make concrete suggestions that will help ameliorate the crisis we have on hand.”
