On Wednesday July 9, 2014, the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, led a delegation from his Ministry to pay a working visit to Reroy Cables Limited at Tema industrial area.

The Minister’s delegation included the Deputy Minister of Energy & Petroleum in charge of Power, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, Chief Director of the Ministry, Director of Power and other Directors of the Ministry.

In his discussion with top management, the Minister hinted that the Government is at the final stage of introducing a policy on Local content and local participation in the power sector.

The policy aims at giving priority to Ghanaian cable manufacturers like Reroy Cables to compete effectively with their foreign counterparts.

The Minister said “adding value to raw materials is important to the Government. We have therefore decided that the local content policy, which has been very successful in the Oil and Gas sector, is introduced in the power sector to give priority to Ghanaian owned businesses.”

The Minister assured Management of Reroy Cables that, he is working around the clock to ensure that power supply to industries is improved so that they can produce 24 hours.

Welcoming the Minister to her factory, the CEO of Reroy Cables, Mrs. Kate Quartey-Papafio expressed her appreciation at the minister’s visit and outlined some of the challenges facing the Ghanaian-owned cable manufacturers in the country.

“To be able to compete effectively…the local cable manufacturers need reliable and affordable electricity supply to enable them produce at optimal levels. We require good roads, water supply and tax incentives to be able to produce and sell at affordable prices”, she said.

Mrs. Quartey-Papafio explained that in response to the recent fire outbreaks that engulfed the nation, Reroy Cables produces Fire-Resistant cables to be used widely in the country to minimize the fire outbreaks.

She conducted the Minister and the delegation round the factory and showed them the newly installed machine that produces Fire-Resistant cables.

Reroy Cables currently employs direct staff of 150 and gives several indirect employment to third parties.

The company produces 6,000 metric tons of Aluminium and 2,000 metric tons of Copper annually and plans to increase capacity by 50% by September this year.
