Chairperson of Agribusiness at the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Fatima Ali Mohammed has reiterated the need to engage the youth in the value chain of agribusiness.
According to her, young people have the potential to develop ideas to help grow the agric sector.
Speaking to the media at the Ghana Agriculture and Agro-Processing Awards, Ms. Ali Mohammed said government must involve the youth in information technology to provide technical solutions to the problems facing the sector.
"We need to engage the youth in technology. All over the world, technology is driving development through the engagement of the youth. We must start working with the youth to find solutions to our problems”, she said.
Ms. Ali Mohammed further said the sustainability of the sector depends on proper incentives and awards to the young men and women.
"If we give the youth a reason to do more, I think we can sustain this sector. The government should be willing to give them awards and prizes and that will help them so much in that quest “She added
Director for Market Development and Market Promotion at the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Agnes Gifty Adjei Sam after winning an award pledged to continue to work hard to promote investments in agribusiness to help tackle inflation caused by increase in the prices of foodstuff.
"We are happy by the honour done us on this august occasion of the industry's national annual awards. We are proud that our efforts to enable more people to create and secure a better future are being recognized”.
She maintained that agriculture remains a key component in achieving a stable economy.
“As a leading brand, we shall continue to drive innovative agribusiness solutions that truly serve the needs of Ghanaians, “she said.
The Ghana Agriculture and Agro-Processing Awards brought together players in the agriculture industry to recognise the achievements of local and international companies involved in the sector.
The awards also recognised the industry's merits and set a benchmark for excellence.
