The Millennium Promise Alliance has appointed gospel trio, ‘Daughters of Glorious Jesus and Kumawood actor Bill Asamoah, as SDG ambassadors.

The job of these two, will be to create awareness and educate the masses on the relevance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals under the theme “Celebrities for change”, which embodies the mission of Millennium Promise.

Country Director of the Millennium Promise Alliance, Chief Nathaniel Ebo Nsarko said, his target was to engage the services of revered personalities in showbiz to advance sustainable development in communities across rural Africa.

“We are using what is called ‘edutainment’ so that we get them to understand and appreciate SDG’s beyond the rhetoric because our politicians will only speak about the SDG’s in passing but not in action”.

He explained the team was selective when choosing the ambassadors.

“ We have to be careful who we select because it is not just about being a celebrity. Some celebrities would come and pollute what we are doing. They will preach one thing and practice vice and we don’t want that,” he said.

The gospel trio, Daughters of Glorious who are engaging in their first ever ambassadorial role after 30 years of being in the industry, were delighted. They shared their 3 goals of interest with JoyNews’ MzGee.

“I think we will do the Agenda, Education and Sanitation because we are the trio. About choosing education, we all need to educate ourselves, especially the youth, the children and everybody …If you take education seriously you will go far”.

According to one member, Cynthia Appiadu, after being a victim of floods, the issue of sanitation is one which is extremely close to the group's heart.

“Sanitation is where we are going to hammer on. My house has flooded for about four times and I think it is because if it starts raining people throw their trash into the waters. The gutters are choked so when the gutters are choked like that, the [flood] water returns,” she stated.

Kumawood star Bill Asamoah, says the initiative serves as an opportunity to serve his homeland.

He stated it was a pleasure to be given the opportunity to serve Ghana again.

“I will make sure that I involve my colleagues in Accra, Kumasi, everywhere that any single actor is. We will make them understand that the SDG’s are not there for only the politicians to talk about,” he added.
