The death is reported in Accra of Charles Sydney Aidoo, father of Adwoa Otema Aidoo-Shum, former host of ‘Speakeazy’ and the Super Morning Show on Joy 99.7 FM. 

Mr Aidoo who attended Achimota College, the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon, and the London School of Economics (LSE) was a Chartered Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

He was for many years with Mechanical Lloyd Ltd. in Accra, starting as a Financial Controller and rising to become the Director of Finance and Administration. He remained with the company until 2009.

Charles Sydney Aidoo served on several boards, including Mechanical Lloyd Co. Ltd., Supreme Aluminium Co. Ltd., Ghana International School, and UT Bank Ltd.

He passed on peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at the age of 76. 

He is survived by his wife Millicent, four children Kwasi Paako Aidoo, Adwoa Otema Aidoo-Shum, Kwaku Som Akoto Aidoo, Kwadwo Bediako Aidoo, and six grandchildren.  

The funeral will be held tomorrow Thursday, 29th October 2020 at the Accra Ridge Church per the details below:

Filing past: 8:30 – 9:00 am

Funeral Service: 9:00am – 10:30am

Final funeral rites will be held at the Accra Ridge Church immediately after the service

Biography

Born to Joseph Sydney Adoo and Rosamond Otema Adoo (née Dako), Charles Sydney Aidoo was born on Nov. 10, 1943.

He lived a distinguished and fulfilling life, through his education in Achimota College, where he obtained both his ‘O’ level and ‘A’ levels.

He went through the School of Administration at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he graduated top of his class in with a B.Sc. Administration degree (specializing in Accounting).

Mr Sydney Aidoo attended the prestigious London School of Economics (LSE) He graduated from LSE with a double major M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance from LSE.

While at Achimota, he had met and befriended a beautiful, charming young lady named Millicent Amarteifio whom he married in London on July 3, 1971.

Their marriage was blessed with four children – Kwasi Paako, Adwoa Otema, a former host of the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Kwaku Som Akoto and Kwadwo Bediako.

Starting work with in 1973 with the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand in London, he returned to Ghana and continued with the firm as an Audit Senior having passed all of his accounting examinations

After stints with Ghana National Trading Corporation (GNTC)  and Ghana Cargo Handling Company Charles joined Mechanical Lloyd Ltd. in Accra as a Financial Controller, rising to become the Director of Finance and Administration. He remained with the company until 2009.

Charles served on several boards, including: Mechanical Lloyd Co. Ltd., Supreme Aluminium Co. Ltd., Ghana International School, and UT Bank Ltd.

An avid sports fan, he was a keen follower of football, tennis and athletics. 

Charles Sydney Aidoo passed on peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the age of 76.

He is survived by his wife Millicent, four children Kwasi Paako Aidoo, Adwoa Otema Aidoo-Shum, Kwaku Som Akoto Aidoo, Kwadwo Bediako Aidoo, and six grandchildren.  

The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Accra Ridge Church with filing past between 8:30 – 9:00 am and the service from 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Final funeral rites will be held at the Ridge Church following the service.
